Benefits of Scalp Massage

If you’ve been in for a massage at Resonance, you’ve likely had a soothing and relaxing scalp massage. It is included in many of our standard massage sessions not only because it feels wonderful, but also because scalp massage has benefits beyond relaxation.

Reduced stress and anxiety

When the worries and stresses of life abound, a scalp massage releases endorphins and can temporarily lighten your mood. Used regularly, it can contribute to an overall reduction in stress and feelings of anxiety. While this will never replace therapy and anxiety medications, scalp massage is another tool to support your wellbeing.

Pain relief

Massage relaxes muscles and releases tension. Scalp massage specifically targets muscles in your head, neck, and shoulders. Many migraine sufferers find relief in scalp massage, and some include it as a part of their preventative routine.

Hair health

Massage aids in circulation, and scalp massage is no exception. The increased circulation from a scalp massage can improve your hair health. Studies have shown that scalp massage, used consistently, aids hair regrowth and can even help grow thicker, longer hair.

In addition to healthier hair, scalp massage and the oils used during the massage slough away dandruff and can help soothe an irritated, dry scalp. The result is a healthier, more flake-free scalp.

Scalp massage is included in many of our standard massages with good reason. However, sometimes clients have somewhere to be after a massage and prefer not to restyle their hair. We understand. Communicate that to your massage therapist, and we are happy to skip the scalp massage.
